The Job
The discs are made from Grade 420 brushed stainless steel, chosen for its durability, corrosion resistance, and sleek finish — all vital qualities when used at sea. Each disc was cut on our Bystronic 6 kW laser, ensuring sharp edges and a clean, repeatable cut across thousands of units.
Once cut, each plate was laser etched black using our LSE 110 fibre marker. This process gives a crisp, permanent mark that’s resistant to wear and ensures all information remains legible for years to come — even in the demanding environment of a cruise liner.
Beyond Data Plates – What Else Can the LSE 110 Do?
While this project focused on stainless steel discs, the LSE 110 fibre marker is a versatile tool that benefits many sectors:
Engineering & Manufacturing – Ideal for part identification, batch codes, QR codes and barcodes, ensuring traceability in high-volume production environments.
Medical & Pharmaceutical – Perfect for marking surgical instruments, implants and medical devices with UDI (Unique Device Identification) codes. The etching is hygienic, permanent, and won’t compromise the surface.
Automotive & Aerospace – Used for serial numbers, safety labels and compliance plates where accuracy and durability are critical.
Electronics – Suited to data face plates, connectors and housings, providing clear and precise markings without affecting functionality.
Luxury Goods & Branding – Great for personalisation, branding, logos and decorative marking on stainless steel, aluminium, and coated metals, adding premium value to products.
Why It Matters
With such a large order, precision and repeatability are crucial. Whether it’s the first disc or the 25,000th, the client needs absolute consistency in both size and finish. That’s where our investment in high-powered laser technology and our skilled team really makes the difference.
These data plates may be small in size, but they play a vital role in safety, identification, and compliance across the vessel. We’re proud to be trusted with work that quite literally keeps things shipshape.
The Bigger Picture
At Cut-Tec, we handle everything from one-off bespoke projects to large-scale production runs. This cruise liner project shows the scale and variety we can achieve — combining high-volume capacity with the attention to detail that’s become our trademark.
